L'Eclisse (1962)
Trader's Film Library #6 · Markets and trading in fiction. The most beautiful trading-floor scenes in film history.

Original title: L'eclisse · Type: film · Created by: Michelangelo Antonioni · Usefulness for traders: ★★★☆☆
What it's about
In Rome, Vittoria (Monica Vitti) begins a relationship with young stockbroker Piero (Alain Delon). In the background are the chaos of the Rome stock exchange and the day her mother loses money in a sudden market drop.
What it has to do with markets
The famous scenes on the floor of the Rome stock exchange are among the best in film history: the noise, the frantic gestures, a minute's silence broken by the phones. They show market emotion better than many modern films.
Lessons for traders
- a crash is also people losing their savings
- a market in panic is crowd emotion (herding, Atlas of biases #31)
- staying calm in chaos is a skill
What to watch out for
An art-house classic. The plot is slow, but the stock exchange scenes are worth seeing.
