Regular and overnight session

Definition. The regular session (RTH) is the New York stock exchange's trading hours: 9:30 AM–4:00 PM New York time (usually 15:30–22:00 in Warsaw). The remaining futures trading hours are the overnight session.

How it works

Index futures trade on CME Globex almost around the clock, with a break from 5:00 to 6:00 PM New York time. Liquidity and volatility are highest during the regular session.

Example

The overnight high and low are often important reference points at the regular session open.

What to watch out for

Levels calculated from the regular session and from the full 24 hours can differ significantly. In the clock-change weeks, European times shift by an hour.
