Mark Shipman: The Next Big Investment Boom and Big Money Little Effort
Trader's Library #40 · Trading methods and craft. Simple, mechanical trend following from a British practitioner.

Author: Mark Shipman · Original: The Next Big Investment Boom; Big Money Little Effort · Year: 2006 · Usefulness for traders: ★★☆☆☆
What it's about
Two books by a British investor describing his experience of systematic trend following. The first is largely about commodity markets; the second is a guide to a simple, mechanical approach that takes little time.
What it gives a trader
A good introduction to the idea of a mechanical system with entry, exit and risk rules that protects you from emotions. Less detailed than Covel or Faith.
Lessons for traders
- mechanical rules limit the influence of emotions
- a simple system executed consistently can beat a complex one executed chaotically
- commodity markets have long cycles
What to watch out for
The books heavily promote the author's method and are less detailed than Covel or Faith.

Educational content, not investment advice. The book description is my own summary and assessment, not quotations. Edition details were checked in catalogues and bookshops, and where there was doubt I said so plainly.
