Original title: Trust No One · Bitconned · Biggest Heist Ever · Crypto Boy · Crypto · Type: documentaries and films · Created by: various · Usefulness for traders: ★★☆☆☆
What it's about
Five productions about the dark side of crypto. “Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King” (Netflix, 2022): the death of the head of the QuadrigaCX exchange and the disappearance of clients' money. “Bitconned” (Netflix, 2024): the people behind the fake Centra Tech project. “Biggest Heist Ever” (Netflix, 2024): a couple accused of laundering bitcoins stolen from the Bitfinex exchange in 2016. “Crypto Boy” (2023) is a Dutch feature film, and “Crypto” (2019) an American thriller about money laundering.
What it has to do with markets
The common denominator: no oversight, trust in a single person and the promise of easy profit. The same warning signs apply to every market and every “opportunity”.
Lessons for traders
- don't keep funds where you're not sure how they're protected
- a promise of guaranteed profit is a warning sign
- regulation, margin and oversight are part of a trader's safety (Ask Lucas: why MYM?)
What to watch out for
Mostly true crime. Little about trading itself.
