Definition. The fear of missing out on an opportunity. In trading it leads to decisions driven by a move that's “getting away” rather than by the plan.
How it works
A sharp price move triggers a sense of loss. The brain reacts to a missed profit much as it does to a loss, which pushes you to hurry.
Example
Price is rising fast without you. You jump into the move far from your planned level just so you “don't miss it”.
What to watch out for
The market will always offer another opportunity. What helps: a plan with clear criteria, a checklist and awareness of your body's signals.
