Poor high and poor low

Definition. A session high or low without clear rejection, i.e. without a “tail” in the profile. In Market Profile theory it's considered an unfinished auction.

How it works

A healthy daily extreme usually has a tail: price was rejected there quickly. When several periods trade at the same level at the extreme, without rejection, it's called a poor high or poor low.

Example

The session ends with a flat high where price stalled several times. Some traders treat that level as a reference point in the following sessions.

What to watch out for

It's a concept from auction theory, not a rule. The level doesn't have to be revisited.
