The calmest month was August 2026 (typical day 318 points), the most volatile March 2026 (636 points). The typical daily range can change as much as twofold from one month to the next. What was a “big move” in a calm month is an ordinary day in a volatile one.

Range = highest minus lowest price of the regular trading hours (RTH) session (9:30 AM–4:00 PM New York, 3:30–10:00 PM Warsaw). 1 point on the MYM contract is worth USD 0.50. Up session = close above the open of the same session.

How I calculate

Data: Dow Jones futures (MYM) on CME in Chicago, every trade from paid exchange data (Sierra Chart), converted into one-minute candles. Period: 156 sessions (March 16, 2026 – October 26, 2026). Regular trading hours (RTH) session = 9:30 AM–4:00 PM New York time (3:30–10:00 PM Warsaw). Each day I use the contract with the highest volume. I skip shortened sessions (US holidays).
