Overnight high and low

Definition. The highest and lowest prices reached during the overnight session, i.e. between the close and the open of the regular session.

How it works

The overnight range shows how the market traded on thinner liquidity, including during the Asian and European sessions. At the regular session open, these levels are often important reference points.

Example

The regular session opens inside the overnight range, then tests its high in the first hour.

What to watch out for

Overnight levels form on thinner liquidity than regular-session levels. It's worth judging them together with the context from higher timeframes.
