Definition. Moving from an expiring futures contract to the next one. For MYM it happens four times a year.
How it works
Index futures have March (H), June (M), September (U) and December (Z) contracts. A contract expires on the third Friday of the month, and liquidity usually moves to the next one about a week earlier.
Example
MYMZ26 is the December 2026 contract. In December, liquidity moves to MYMH27.
What to watch out for
After the roll, the old contract has less volume. Check the symbol on your charts and in your order entry platform, and the definition of your continuous contract.
